Skipper Bheemraj Ramkellawan and off-spinner Yuvraj Dyal have been named top cricketers for 2014 when the Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) staged its annual award ceremony in the auditorium of the club recently.
Ramkellawan and Dyal were named best batsman and best bowler respectively after some outstanding performances during the period under review. The right-handed Ramkellawan chalked up a chart-topping 715 runs, including a highest score of 101, while Dyal was on top of the wickets tally with 39. Nandram Ganesh had the best bowling figures for the year, 6-28, while Vishwanauth Ramlakhan and Gavin Moriah were adjudged most improved and most promising players respectively.
Other awardees included Chaitram Ramlall, Satesh Jainarine, Suresh Jainarine, Dave Ramkellawan, Akash Narine, Imran Karim, G. Emanally, H. Pillay, R Malone and V Kaladin.
Meanwhile, the ceremony was graced with the presence of Sport Minister Dr Frank Anthony, Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board Anand Sanasie and President of the Demerara Cricket Board Raj Singh.
In his Chairman’s report, Taajnauth Jadunauth thanked all who had contributed to the club’s significant growth over the past two years. Special mention was made of the input of Dr Anthony, the Guyana Cricket Board and Ravi Etwaroo. While congratulating awardees for their noticeable performances during the year, Jadunauth lamented the growing tendency in many players who are reluctant to go the extra mile to help younger players and who wanted too many things free.
Minister Anthony lauded the progress of the Club within the short period of two years and wished the members every success over the coming years. The ECCCC also announced that it would be touring Suriname shortly for a three-match engagement.
